Force and Rotation

pivot

A pivot is a point where things can rotate around.
Force to an object can cause it to rotate around a pivot

Levers can be anything that turn around a pivot.
A lever helps us to make a hard job easier!

Imagine trying to lift a car up by hand to change a flat tyre!
But use a pole of some kind as a lever and you have a lot better chance of getting home.

Note when you lift the lid from a tin at home it is always easier to use the end of a spoon handle rather than directly with your fingers to pry it open!
A longer lever has a greater turning force!
