They will take general exercise such as running, skiing and cycling to improve their general and cardiovascular fitness.

They will also exercise specific muscle groups such as their neck and forearm muscles to resist specific physical demands brought about by driving.

Most drivers will take about a month's intensive exercise (4 - 6 hours a day) in the build up to a new season.

Most drivers will have the advice of a personal trainer.
