Formula one drivers have radio contact with the pits and so they will not be required to make many calculations themselves as they are racing.

In other formulae they may need to estimate fuel consumption, tyre and brake wear and the general condition of the car. Drivers sometimes do this by assessing the response of the car to control inputs rather than by any form of direct calculation.
